2009 Triathlon to fund School Hall in South Africa with Niall Mellon Trust (Apr 09)
Put simply, we're about improving things for kids. Sporting Proud was established to raise money for childrens' charities through sporting events. Proceeds are delivered direct to the chosen charity (always a properly-registered Irish charity) and all of our organisers give their time and effort, and often other resources, voluntarily. We have always prided ourselves on running the best organisation and event we can in a way that ensures that practically all the money raised finds its way to the relevant cause.
We've been running an annual charitable sports event since 1998, when we ran from Belfast to Cork to raise money for the Irish Wheelchair Association. Since then, we've managed to raise over € 1,000,000 for a variety of child-related causes.
To date we've welcomed more than 1,100 participants to the event and the vast majority had never done a triathlon before. Funnily enough neither had any of the organisers when Sporting Proud ran their very first triathlon back in '99.

Many other people also give generously of their time and effort, especially on Derv's team in the run-up, and on the day.
Please see THE CAUSE above to find out more about the point of it all. Both there and below you will also see our targets for the year...
We're hoping to raise in excess of €100,000 in this year's events.
Sponsorship cards are available - please contact us (this site's sign-up form or info@sportingproud.org) and we will post one or more of them on to you.
Each competitor is asked to raise the following by way of sponsorship:
Individual: € 300 Team: € 1000
These are targets and your effort, whether it meets part of this target, or exceeds it, will all go to this year's worthy cause.
We ask you to forward as much as possible of your sponsorship money to Sporting Proud (see the Contact page for address) ahead of the Big Day. So start to beg, borrow and raise the money... Good luck !!
