Kathleen's Kids of Makondo
&
Barretstown Camp, Ireland
In 2011, funds raised will be split evenly between these two charities. Details of what the charities have undertaken to deliver with the money you raised is outlined below.
SportingProud/Kathleen's kids Fundraising Project 2011
Kathleen’s Kids is a charity which supports a Medical Missionary of Mary outpost near Makondo, Uganda - an area cruelly devastated by Aids. Almost two generations of adults have been wiped out leaving countless children orphaned, alone to fend for themselves. But for Sister Kathleen and her Medical Missionary colleagues, these children would have no hope.
The monies raised in the triathlon this year will once again go towards the school food programme where we provide a vital daily meal (milk, soya and egg) for the nursery and primary school children within Sr Kathleen’s Community.
In addition, we also propose supporting a number of special needs children in the community. With our help, these children who are all generally abandoned aids orphans, can receive proper medical attention and be placed in full residential care in suitable boarding schools in Makondo.
SportingProud/Barretstown Camp 2011
The money raised from Sporting Proud 2011 will pay for 10 children to come to Barretstown for a 10 day summer camp in 2012. Coming to Barretstown is a truly life changing experience for a child. If you could see the physical and emotional transformation that a stay here at Barretstown has on a child, it is truly something amazing.
The diagnosis of cancer or other serious illness for a child means that life will never be the same again no matter what the outcome of the illness. Before coming here a child can feel very low, their self confidence and self esteem have gradually worn away from having to deal with a serious illness so young, and in essence their childhood has been robbed from them.
Coming to Barretstown restores something that has been taken away by serious illness and helps children to regain their self confidence and self esteem and they leave here knowing that they are not alone and that their illness doesn’t define them.
